Heat — The Crew I Had to Have

The Heat crew figures standing on a Los Angeles street backdrop

When Heat came out in 1995, it was a big hit. Not just because it had a roster of an epic all-star cast. The storyline, the action-packed scenes, especially that down town LA gunfight in the streets, and everything else in between. That is just what makes the movie hold a top 20 spot in the Empire Magazines Top 100 Films of all time, and rank an 8.4/10 on IMDb .

I am a big fan of this kind of films. Something I got from my Dad, maybe.

When that movie came out, the younger version of me wanted to become a methodical master criminal, a gangster, like Robert De Niro in that film. Cool under pressure. Always three steps ahead. The kind of guy who never let anything slow him down.

When They Went 1/6 Scale

So after 20 years from the release of the movie, you could imagine my excitement when they came out with the 1/6th scale versions of the characters. De Niro as Neil McCauley. Kilmer as Chris Shiherlis. Sizemore as Michael Cheritto. And Pacino as Vincent Hanna, the detective who spent the whole film chasing him down. Two crews, one obsession, exactly like the movie’s own tagline said.

I had to search every group and every site just to get my hands on all of them.

The One That Got Away

The only one I missed out on, and I am still searching for to this day, hoping some collector out there will finally let him go, is the figure of Danny Trejo. His character in the film, Gilbert Trejo, was McCauley’s getaway driver. Not the biggest name in the cast list, but a piece of the crew all the same, and my collection will not feel complete until he is standing there with the rest of them.

The price tag never mattered. I had to have them.

Some Rules I Cannot Follow

Neil McCauley had a code. Don’t let yourself get attached to anything you are not willing to walk out on in thirty seconds flat if you feel the heat around the corner.

I look at these four figures standing on my shelf and I have to admit it. I could never live by that rule. Whatever heat comes around the corner, these four are staying right where they are.

Happy collecting — if something makes you smile, buy it. You’re investing in your happiness.
